If I were to summarize into once concise statement all of the advice my mom had given me growing up, it would be this, “Just be happy.”
That’s great – she was obviously a caring and loving parent, but my response was always, “No problem, just tell me how.” My mom’s answer, “Um…well, you’re going to have to figure that out for yourself. It’s different for everybody.”
I set my sights on happiness from that day forward researching every text, self-help book, and practice on happiness. In my pursuit of happiness I discovered something – Mom was wrong. It turns out happiness has many common elements. It turns out that many of the ideas that we commonly believe in both Western and Eastern societies that lead to happiness are simply false.
Happiness is not as nebulous as we all think. There is a path that is common to everyone. Common? That’s right. Whether your are rich or poor, single or married, green or yellow – you can be happy. To find out what it has taken me 35 years of life study and the path to your own happiness first you must determine if you understand the concept of happiness.
